Colonoscopy

 

Colonoscopy is a procedure in which a doctor uses a flexible, narrow lighted tube called the colonoscope, to look inside the entire colon.  This exam is used to find possible causes of rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, weight loss, unexplained changes in bowel habits, chronic constipation, and chronic diarrhea.  Colonoscopy is used as the main method for screening colon cancer and polyps.  Screening colonoscopy is advised for average risk patients at age 50 and thereafter at 10 year intervals.  Continue reading

Procedure Instructions:
 

Before Your Procedure

 

  • It is your responsibility to arrange in advance for a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure, you cannot drive yourself home.
 
  • Please let us know if there is any change in your physical condition, such as a cold or fever.

 

  • If you have not been contacted the day before your procedure, please call us at 386-758-8937 for your instructions. Continue

 

Day of Procedure

 

  • Please bathe or shower prior to your procedure.  Do not use lotions or oils after bathing.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as sweat suits and easy to button shirts or blouses.  Wear comfortable shoes.
 
  • Leave valuables, including jewelry and cash at home.  We will not be responsible for damaged to lost property. Continue

 

 

After Procedure

 

  • Follow your doctor’s order regarding diet, rest and medication once you have returned home after your procedure.

 

  • You may feel a little sleepy or dizzy for several hours after your procedure.  This is normal.

 

  • A few days after your procedure, we will call you to see how you are and to answer any questions you might have. Continue

 

Upper Endoscopy

 

Upper endoscopy, also called EGD, (with stands for esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is a procedure which allows the doctor to look inside the upper gastrointestinal tract which includes esophagus, stomach, duodenum (first portion of the small intestine).  A thin, flexible, lighted tube is used to look inside the lining of the upper GI track.

 

Upper endoscopy is used to determine the causes of gastrointestinal diseases and symptoms including heartburn, nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, Barrett’s esophagus, swallowing difficulties, abdominal pain, bleeding, unexplained anemia, and presence of hiatal hernia. Continue reading

Cataract Surgery

 

A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that effects vision.  Most cataracts are related to aging.  Cataracts are very common in older people.

 

The lens normally is a clear part of the eye that helps focus light or an image on the retina.

 

The lens is made of mostly water and protein, but as we age, some of the protein may clump together and start to cloud the lens.  This is what we call a cataract.  Continue reading
